PYT is a Charter School of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). PYT and its Certificate Program is not a general yoga therapy school, but a specialty of practicing yoga in and as medicine. Proponents of the PYT Method also identify it as medical therapeutic yoga.

PYT graduates must be more than yoga therapists because they are legally bound to their patients under a scope of practice.  Their ability to assess and prescribe yoga as medicine allows them to operate under their scope of practice, and that of the PYT Certificate program.

The PYT Certificate Program exceeds standards set by IAYT for yoga therapy, including those set by the voluntary registry Yoga Alliance.

PYT is a school which teaches medical therapeutic yoga.  It is a graduate and postgraduate level medical program and therefore supercedes the need for Yoga Alliance recognition and also does not fall into the general lay (nonmedical) yoga therapy program categorization.
